Many of us are currently, or have previously experienced, periods of high stress. Many of us also experience anxiety, which can be a serious mental health issue that is difficult to resolve. Sometimes we are overwhelmed by stress or anxiety, and it can be difficult to “break the cycle” and find a calmer mental state. Stress and anxiety can also lead to serious physical health issues if not addressed.

When you feel overwhelmed, it can be useful to stop what you’re doing, which for many with a busy schedule is easier said than done. A massage appointment is a great way to schedule in time for yourself where you have nowhere else to be and nothing else to do for the duration of your appointment.

During a massage, we use a range of techniques, depending on what you need on the day. Often, stress and anxiety will cause a person to feel tension and pain, especially through the chest, neck, shoulders, jaw, and head. People may experience headaches, clenching teeth, and sometimes it can feel difficult to take a deep breath. During a massage, we can release muscular tension in these areas (including through your face and jaw), which can help people feel calmer and reduce pain. During a massage appointment, you may feel emotional and need some quiet time. This is normal, and we will be happy to tailor your appointment to your needs.

Massage can be a useful tool for stress and anxiety management. While we encourage everyone to take advantage of the benefits of a massage to help in these situations, it is important that you see your doctor if you feel like your situation is overwhelming, and/or if you are experiencing any other health issues resulting from stress or anxiety.
